0" In the first four games, the Mancunians scored twelve goals, four of which were scored by the team's newcomer Romelu Lukaku. Everton's performance is still bad, the Toffees hit the opponents' goal twice, and Wayne Rooney did it both times. A curious duel between us expects today - Lukaku vs Rooney, it is likely that one of the players will be able to score against his former team and influence final result match.

0" After yesterday's victory for Manchester City, Jose Mourinho's team dropped to second place in the standings. Everton is currently in 17th place and today will complete a crazy calendar stretch (meetings with Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham " and "United").

0" Everton also carried out an impressive transfer campaign, spending a total of about 140 million euros over the summer. In addition, Wayne Rooney, who returned to the Liverpool club after 13 years, joined the Toffees for free. The start of the new season for the Blues turned out to be quite good; at the start of the Premier League, Everton dealt with Stoke City, and then achieved a draw in the away game with Manchester City. In parallel with their success in the Premier League, the Toffees were able to get into the group stage of the Europa League, defeating the Croatian Hajduk in a two-game confrontation. At this point, Everton’s white stripe gave way to black – Ronald Koeman’s team lost in turn to Chelsea and Tottenham, after which they lost devastatingly to Atalanta at the start group stage LE.

0" Summer Guide "Manchester United" did a good job of strengthening the team's core. Romelu Lukaku (€85 million), Nemanja Matic (€45 million) and Victor Lindelof (€35 million) joined the Red Devils this transfer window. The renewed team got off to a great start in the English Championship - Jose Mourinho's team won three victories in a row with a total goal difference of 10:0. The first misfire happened in the last round, when the Mancunians drew (2:2) with Stoke City. On Tuesday, Manchester United made a successful start to their journey in the Champions League, beating Swiss Basel 3-0.

Manchester United completely failed in December, losing points in 4 out of 8 matches. The Devils' last three meetings in the Premier League ended in a draw, and today they go to one of the most impenetrable stadiums in England - Goodison Park. Can they start from scratch or has Mourinho completely lost control of the situation? Preview of the match "Everton" - "Manchester United" from website

The day before

It seems Manchester United have listened to Mourinho's complaints and taken a New Year's break from the league. The last time the Mancunians won the Premier League was on December 17 - just when the rest of the European championships were closing the outgoing year. This was followed by humiliation in the match with Bristol City and immediately three draws in the Premier League. Each match in this series followed its own scenario. For example, against Leicester, the “devils” played well and could have scored a lot, but instead they conceded in the very end. Burnley created two good chances throughout the match and converted both. And everyone knows how Sean Dayich’s team knows how to defend.

But the latest meeting with Southampton made it clear that Mourinho has a crisis of ideas brewing. The Mancunians were in no way superior to their opponents from the bottom standings, who conceded five goals from Tottenham the day before. De Gea twice saved Man United from conceding a goal, but McCarthur was a hero only once. Pogba failed again, failing to capitalize on a good chance just before the final whistle. And Mkhitaryan may have entered the Old Trafford field for the last time - his game was so disgusting. The only bright spot in that meeting was individual actions Mats. It was the Spaniard who came closest to scoring, but his shot from outside the penalty area was saved by MacArthur.

Everton failed to say goodbye to 2017 with dignity, suffering their first defeat under Sam Allardyce. The Toffees lost away to Bournemouth, who had previously failed to win in nine matches. To be honest, Allardyce didn't bring anything new to Goodison. Thanks to good defenders and the usual luck, Everton picked up points in matches against West Brom and Chelsea, and also dealt with championship outsiders like Swansea and Huddersfield. But in the same match against the “aristocrats” at Goodison, the hosts played very cowardly, playing in the second half with five defenders. Such an Everton is definitely not capable of fighting for the Champions League and will not even compete with Burnley this season.

It is clear that at some point the owners were afraid of relegation, so they invited the experienced crisis manager Big Sam. But the Englishman is not suitable for the future; his methods have long been outdated and only work for teams from the bottom of the standings. And Everton, despite everything, managed to climb to ninth place, while having a negative goal difference (-7).

History of recent meetings

Last season, Everton drew with Manchester United twice (1-1). At home and away, the Toffees played as number two, trying to contain the Devils' attack. The draw at Goodison was achieved thanks to a penalty awarded by Michael Oliver in the 89th minute. In the first match of this season, the “devils” managed to score a goal in the fourth minute (Valencia scored with a stunning shot). However, then Manchester United again failed to kill the intrigue, scoring the next goal only six minutes before the end of the regulated time. Former Everton striker Romelu Lukaku assisted Mkhitaryan and scored himself in the 89th minute. The Belgian did not really hold back his emotions, causing a storm of indignation from Toffees fans. However, they will not be able to boo him today. In a match against Southampton, Lukaku suffered a concussion and was out for approximately 2-3 weeks.

Personnel situation of opponents

Injured Everton players: Baines, Coleman, Morey, Stekelenburg, Barkley;

Injured Manchester United players: Ibrahimovic, Bailly, Carrick, Smalling, Fellaini, Lukaku, Antonio Valencia;

Match forecast: Big Sam will never open up in a match against such an opponent. Everton will play to hold their opponents from the very beginning, but goal scored can change everything. It is clear that the game will be played with the guests' advantage, but will they be able to use it to win, or will they lose points again?

  • Everton have lost only one of their last five home matches against Manchester United;
  • Manchester United can claim their 35th win against Everton. This will be a record figure for one match in the Premier League;
  • Everton have won 4 of their last 5 home matches;
  • Everton are playing a home game on 1 January for the first time since 2003. Then City came to Goodison and the game ended 2-2;
  • Sam Allardyce won only 1 of 21 Premier League matches against Manchester United (15 losses 5 draws) and never won against Jose Mourinho (11 matches, 8 losses, 3 draws);
  • Manchester United have only once had more than three drawn matches in a row (5 in 1992);

Everton and Manchester United will meet. The home team dropped to third place, and the guests are in ninth place.

The rivals are approaching the confrontation after three rounds without victories. If for Everton a loss of points is not fatal, since the team is not aiming for high positions this season, then for Man United every point is important, given the competition for getting into the top four.

Everton

The team lost to Bournemouth in the previous round. The coach was a little too clever with the tactics for the match, not releasing pure forwards in the first half of the game. Although the appearance of Rooney and Niass after the break allowed the balance to be restored, Everton still conceded closer to the final whistle.

Man United

Having finished their last three matches in a draw, Mourinho's men finally stopped fighting for the championship title. In addition, the Mancunians lost second place, giving way to Chelsea.

The team lost two central forwards. All the work falls on Rashford. The Portuguese specialist is increasingly complaining about the short bench, so in January, the Red Devils will try to strengthen themselves.

Personal meetings

In the previous 5 matches in the Premier League, Manchester United won three times. Everton only managed to draw twice last season. The last match took place in mid-September in Manchester. Then the hosts defeated the opponent with a score of 4:0.

Statistics

  • The handicap +1 on Everton has played in the last 5 home matches.
  • Handicap -1 at Man United in the last 9 away games, lost 6 times with one return.
  • In 11 previous head-to-head duels in the championship, the outcome “both won’t score” happened 8 times.
  • In the last 10 matches between clubs in the Premier League, the total number of corners was less than 11.5 8 times.

Team compositions

In the home infirmary are Baines, Stekelenburg, Coleman, Funes Mori and Barkley. The hosts will probably not be helped by Lukaku, Valencia, Smalling, Fellaini, Bailly, Ibrahimovic and Carrick. The readiness of Darmian and Martial is questionable.

Bookmaker odds

The guests are considered the favorite in the BC League Betting: Everton win – 5.10, draw – 3.52, Man United win – 1.79.

Low-scoring football is expected. You can bet on a total over 2.5 for 2.30, and on a total (2.5) for 1.64. The chances of the Toffees scoring are 57% and the Red Devils' scoring is 82%.

The match against Everton will be Manchester United's third in eight days. The Red Devils dropped points at Stamford Bridge last Saturday and were defeated by Juventus on Tuesday. To make things even more dramatic, the team has won just one in its last seven matches. The game against Everton is the time to win.

At the moment, the Toffees are ahead of Mourinho's team, but if they win, the Devils will overtake the Liverpool team. Last season, the Red Devils beat Liverpool twice, with the aggregate score being 6-0 in favor of United. However, now it is not Sam Allardyce who is on the coaching bridge, but Marco Silva, who once already beat Manchester United as coach of Hull City.

In exactly two weeks, the Red Devils will have a match with Manchester City. United have three games to play before the derby. The match against Everton begins the countdown.

Finally, the Toffees waited for Marco Silva. With the new coach, the team strengthened well in the off-season. In the Premier League, the team won three matches, and before that they lost to Arsenal. Actually, the Gunners are the only top team that Everton has played with. Manchester United is a new challenge for the Toffees to prove their competitiveness.

As it turns out, these teams have a lot in common. Both teams hate Liverpool and Mourinho has said Everton's ambitions are similar to United's. Moreover, Mourinho and Marco Silva can be called friends in part. In 2015, Mourinho wished Marc good luck when Silva’s Olympiacos were about to play Arsenal: Arsenal plays in a group where my young friend works as the manager of Olympiacos. This is a fantastic career turn for Malysh. I'll be honest - I would like to see Olympiacos beat Arsenal.

At yesterday's press conference, Marco Silva supported his compatriot: “Jose is able to cope with the situation at United.” I have no doubts about him."

Speaking about the match with Everton, one cannot help but recall the main transfer between the clubs in recent times. Romelu Lukaku has not scored in eight matches, his longest goal drought since his move to United. In the past, after a drought, Romelu burst just in a match with former team. We're waiting, sir.

However, there are also some nice numbers. The Toffees are the most convenient opponent for us in the history of the Premier League (35 wins, 98 goals). But at Old Trafford they take second place - 19 times Liverpudlians left red Manchester with the steering wheel. Only Tottenham has more (21).

At the same time, there are no clear goalscorers-experts in “taffy” at United. Giggs and Lowe scored 8 each, Solskjaer had 7, followed by the peloton. In this regard, Ruud van Nistelrooy's statistics are striking - 6 goals in 7 games.

Of those likely to feature tomorrow, Anthony Martial has the best record - 4 goals in 6 games (Lukaku 1 goal in 1 game, Rashford 0 in 6 games).
